MoE Opens Five-Year Contractual Post; Candidates with Strong Academic and Administrative Credentials Encouraged to Apply
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has opened applications for the post of Director at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna), initiating a high-level selection process to appoint the next academic and administrative head of the premier institution. The position carries a fixed monthly salary of ₹2,25,000, along with admissible allowances, and will be offered on a contractual basis for up to five years or until the candidate turns 70, whichever comes earlier.
According to the official notification, the role demands an exceptional academic record coupled with substantial leadership experience. Applicants must hold a PhD, with the preceding degree obtained in first class or equivalent, preferably in an engineering discipline. Exceptional candidates from science, mathematics, or management backgrounds may also be considered. The eligibility criteria stipulate at least 10 years of teaching experience as a Professor in a reputed engineering or technology institution, including the supervision of PhD scholars. Additionally, the candidate must possess a minimum of five years of administrative experience and demonstrate proven leadership in institutions of national importance. Preference will be accorded to applicants below 60 years of age on the last date of application.
A Search-cum-Selection Committee will evaluate applications and nominations, assessing candidates’ academic contributions, research impact, administrative capabilities, and vision for the institute’s growth. The Director, as per the charter, serves as both the academic and executive head, responsible for steering IIT Patna’s long-term strategy, research ecosystem, financial oversight, and external collaborations.
Interested candidates must submit a detailed curriculum vitae in the prescribed format, accompanied by:
l A two-page justification for their candidature,
l A two-page vision statement outlining their roadmap for IIT Patna
l Contact details of at least two distinguished referees familiar with their professional work.
Applicants employed in government departments, autonomous bodies, or public sector undertakings are required to route their applications through the appropriate channel, while also sending an advance copy.
