Officials highlighted that the arrival schedules of 25 trains were affected by the foggy weather conditions. The visibility levels dropped significantly to 50 meters at Delhi-Safdarjung and 125 meters at Delhi (Palam), making travel challenging.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Tuesday witnessed a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, slightly below the usual mark. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 378 by 4 pm. Humidity levels fluctuated between 59% and 100%. The weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday predicted predominantly clear skies with dense to very dense fog during the mornings.
The AQI scale categorizes air quality: 'good' between zero and 50, 'satisfactory' between 51 and 100, 'moderate' between 101 and 200, 'poor' between 201 and 300, 'very poor' between 301 and 400, and 'severe' between 401 and 500.
On Tuesday, Delhi experienced a maximum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius, three notches higher than the seasonal average. The dense fog severely impacted visibility across various areas while the air quality persisted in the 'very poor' category.
