National Games 2023 Goa: On Day 8 of the National Games in Goa, the athletes from the Services Sports Control Board demonstrated their exceptional skills, securing an impressive total of 17 medals. Services clinched a remarkable 12 gold medals, firmly positioning themselves as strong contenders and closing in on Maharashtra, the current leaders of the competition.
The defending champions, Services, showcased their prowess in various rowing events, claiming four gold medals. They triumphed in the men's rowing M2F1 team event by outperforming Madhya Pradesh and Punjab at the Chapora River. Additionally, they secured gold in the men's M4F1 event by defeating Delhi and Maharashtra.
Services' outstanding performance in rowing continued with two more gold medals in LM2F1 and M1F1 events. However, Services' women's teams narrowly missed out on medals in the W2F1, W1F1, and LW2F1 events.
In swimming, Services' Likhit SP overcame stiff competition from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to claim the gold in the men's 50m breaststroke event. The impressive swimmer from Kerala, Sajan Prakash, shattered another national record, clocking 1:59.38 in the men's 200m butterfly to secure a gold medal.
The spotlight, however, was on the Karnataka swimmers on Day 8 of the 38th National Games. The women's team from Karnataka achieved an extraordinary feat by setting a new national record with a time of 8:49.74 in the 4x200m freestyle event. Not to be outdone, Karnataka's men's team also established a new national record, displaying their dominance with a sensational finish in the 4x200 freestyle event, clocking 7:37.47.
Services and Karnataka continue to make a mark at the National Games, further elevating the competition's excitement and prestige.
