During the recently concluded G20 Summit held in New Delhi on September 9 and 10, a Chinese diplomat staying at the prestigious Taj Palace Hotel found himself amid a heated dispute. According to sources familiar with the incident, the diplomat refused to subject his bag to inspection at the hotel's security counter, citing diplomatic immunity.
An anonymous security personnel at the scene disclosed that the diplomat's bag stood out due to its unusual dimensions, being approximately one and a half feet longer than typical bags and about half a foot narrower in width. The Chinese delegate declined to disclose the bag's contents despite repeated requests.
In response, the hotel authorities allowed the contentious bag to be stored in one of the 75 rooms booked by the Chinese delegation, closely monitoring it to prevent any unauthorized movement. The incident was promptly reported to all Indian security agencies involved in the G20 Summit.
Following a series of discussions, the bag was eventually returned to the Chinese Embassy the following Friday, resolving the diplomatic standoff.
