The much-anticipated trailer for Vishal Bharadwaj's latest cinematic endeavor, "Khufiya," has finally landed! On Monday, Netflix treated audiences to an exclusive sneak peek of the film, inspired by the gripping novel "Escape to Nowhere," penned by former Chief of the Counter Espionage Unit of R&AW, Amar Bhushan. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Tabu, Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Azmeri Haque Badhon, this spy thriller promises an electrifying cinematic experience.
The trailer unfolds against the backdrop of the R&AW headquarters in Delhi in 2004, where a potential security breach sends shockwaves through the agency. An insider whispers, "We have a mole in the agency." In the role of RAW agent Krishna Menon, Tabu embarks on a relentless quest to identify the elusive traitor, with suspicion ultimately falling upon Dev, portrayed by Ali Fazal. The agents meticulously surveil every facet of Dev's life, including his wife, played by Wamiqa Gabbi. As the crisis deepens, the trailer tantalizingly hints at even more covert revelations.
Social Media Reactions Sharing the trailer on its platform, Netflix India captioned it with, "Yahan hathiyaar ke roop hain alag, aur jung hai khufiya. In a world of spies, the traitor must be brought to light. #Khufiya, streaming from Oct 5, only on Netflix!" Fans enthusiastically responded to the trailer, with one commenting, "Tabu & Vishal Bharadwaj are an unmatched combo!!!" Another viewer exclaimed, "This looks amazing!" Yet another comment declared, "If Vishal Bharadwaj has made it, it will always be good."
Behind-the-Scenes Insights This Netflix film marks a reunion between Tabu and the acclaimed director, following their successful collaborations on "Maqbool" (2003) and "Haider" (2014). During Netflix's Films Day event, Vishal Bharadwaj revealed that he decided to change the gender of the protagonist, originally a male character in Bhushan's 2012 book, because he found it lacking in excitement. "The film is based on Amar Bhushan's espionage novel 'Escape to Nowhere.' The character was originally male, but it was not exciting enough for me. When I thought of Tabu, my excitement level soared, and I changed the character's gender. I found a reason to work with Tabu, and I got that," he explained.
Mark your calendars! "Khufiya" is set to premiere on Netflix on October 5, promising an adrenaline-pumping journey into the world of spies and intrigue.
