Starting today, the government has launched a program to sell onions at a reduced price of Rs 25 per kg through mobile vans and retail outlets in Delhi. The National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Limited (NCCF) will oversee the distribution. This move aims to provide relief to consumers who have been grappling with elevated onion prices, which have recently ranged between Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kg. Initially implemented in Delhi, the subsidized sale is projected to extend to other regions in the near future.
The NCCF will manage onion sales via mobile vans traversing various city areas and two retail outlets positioned in Nehru Place and Okhla. The retail outlets will operate from 10 am to 8 pm, ensuring accessible hours for consumers.
Additionally, the government has committed to procuring an extra 2 lakh tonnes of onions to bolster its reserve stock. This strategic measure is designed to uphold price stability in the coming months.
