In response to the communal violence in Gurugram, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller issued a plea on Thursday, urging people to remain calm and refrain from resorting to violent actions.
When questioned about the clashes in Gurugram and surrounding regions, Miller emphasized the importance of calm and non-violence. He stated, "As always, we would urge parties to exercise restraint and avoid any violent actions. As for communication with Americans in the area, I am not currently aware of any such updates. I will be glad to follow up with the Embassy for more information."
To address the tense situation in Nuh and nearby districts, the administration has extended the suspension of mobile internet services until midnight on Sunday (August 5). This ban now applies to Nuh, Faridabad, Palwal, and certain areas of Gurugram in Haryana, aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation in light of the recent violence.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court issued notices to the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana in response to the protest marches and demonstrations organized against the violence in Nuh. The court took action on a plea related to the Haryana violence and has scheduled the next hearing for August 4. The case was heard by Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti.
Meanwhile, members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged protests in various parts of the national capital on Wednesday, expressing their disapproval of the violence that erupted in Haryana's Nuh district on July 31. The Supreme Court has also directed the Centre and state governments to ensure that no hate speech or violence takes place in Delhi-NCR during the marches organized by VHP and Bajrang Dal.
Regarding the Nuh violence, the toll stands at six people killed, and several others, including police personnel, injured in various areas of Haryana. The violence erupted due to an attempt to halt a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh on Monday. Subsequently, mobs in Sohna set fire to four vehicles and a shop. Moreover, on Tuesday, a mosque was attacked in the Sector 57 area of Gurugram, leading to the death of its naib imam.
