The G20 Summit, a confluence of the world's most influential leaders, has descended upon India this year, bearing significance not only for the nation but for the global community as well, given its role in shaping international economic policies. In commemoration of this momentous occasion, India is set to captivate the audience with a special musical performance. A group of 78 instrumentalists will serenade the world leaders assembled for the summit with the evocative melody 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family).
Scheduled for presentation during the ceremonial dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in honor of the G20 leaders on September 9, the performance, entitled 'Bharat Vadya Darshanam' – Musical Journey of India – by the 'Gaandharva Aatodyam' ensemble, promises to be an enchanting experience.
This musical odyssey will showcase an array of traditional Indian instruments, including the santoor, sarangi, jal tarang, and shehnai, all meticulously curated by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. The repertoire spans Hindustani, Carnatic, folk, and contemporary music, commencing with compositions in Vilambit Laya (slow tempo), transitioning to Madhya Laya (medium-fast tempo), and concluding with exhilarating scores in Druta Laya (fast tempo).
The ensemble comprises 34 Hindustani musical instruments, 18 Carnatic musical instruments, and 26 folk musical instruments representing the rich diversity of India's musical heritage. Among the 78 artists are 11 children, 13 women, six differently-abled (divyang) artists, 26 young men, and 22 seasoned professionals.
This performance serves as a symbol of unity and cross-cultural understanding among nations worldwide. The resonant message of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' underscores our interconnectedness, reminding us that we are all integral members of the same global family. It conveys the idea that, despite our political disparities and diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, harmony and peace can prevail when we come together. This message carries exceptional significance in today's world, marked by multiple global crises demanding international collaboration and empathy.
Moreover, this performance provides a platform to showcase the finest facets of Indian culture and music. The 78 instrumentalists interpreting 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' represent some of India's most talented individuals, hailing from various regions and backgrounds. Their collective artistry will create a mesmerizing display of classical Indian music, destined to enrapture all in attendance.
In addition to the musical presentation, India has meticulously arranged a series of other events to commemorate the G20 Summit. Professional dancers from India will grace the occasion with traditional Indian dances, and cultural exhibitions will unveil the beauty of Indian art and handicrafts. Thought-provoking discussions on global issues, such as climate change and sustainable development, will underscore India's commitment to these crucial matters.
The G20 Summit stands as a unique opportunity for nations across the globe to unite in solidarity and peace. Through the rendition of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' India aspires to foster deeper understanding among all nations, reaffirming the collective commitment of our global family to pursue unity and harmony, particularly during these challenging times.
