At Bharat Chamber’s 125th anniversary, Om Birla stresses inclusive development for Atmanirbhar Bharat

Kolkata, November 4 — Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday emphasised that women’s active participation is essential for achieving the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He was speaking at the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata.

Birla said that India has all the resources required for rapid and sustainable economic growth. However, he stressed that the nation’s progress depends largely on the empowerment and inclusion of women across all sectors. “A nation cannot move forward unless its women are empowered and contribute equally to development,” he stated.

The Speaker highlighted various government initiatives promoting women-led growth, entrepreneurship, and leadership, adding that these efforts are paving the way for a more inclusive economy. He also lauded the increasing presence of women in governance, business, and science, noting that their contributions are driving innovation and social transformation.

Birla called upon institutions and industry bodies to create greater opportunities for women, asserting that gender equality is not just a social imperative but an economic necessity for a truly self-reliant India.
